SNMP-based management platforms have several components for
receiving and processing SNMP traps. Received events are forwarded
through a chain of processes, each performing specific actions on
them. The services of a filter process can be used to send certain
kinds of events to registered management applications in order to
allow automatic actions to be taken in case of unusual circumstances.
Several filters can be active concurrently, each one defined for
certain event attributes like source, type, time, etc. A log daemon
stores all event data in a log file. This file can be accessed by
users and applications to determine the event history of the network.
A GUI application presents a graphical representation of events in so-called
Dynamic Workspaces at the platform user interface. These dynamic
workspaces can be used to cluster all incoming events or only those
according to a specific, pre-defined filter.
