Welcome to the course page for Advanced Topics in Parallel Computing for summer term 2021 at LMU Munich. Here you will find details for the lecture and the accompanying practical lab exercises.

This course will be held online in SS21. The lectures will be made available as pre-recorded videos (slides+narration/audio) on a weekly basis. For discussing the lab exercises we will have weekly interactive online meetings which will also serve as the venue for feedback, questions and discussions concerning lecture content.

Content

The lecture will cover a selection of advanced topics from the area of concurrent and parallel computing, such as:
  • Memory consistency models
  • C++ atomic types and operations
  • Synchronization algorithms (barriers, locks)
  • Concurrent objects
  • Lock-freedom and wait-freedom
  • Algorithms for collective communication
  • Co-routines
  • Dataflow approaches
  • FPGAs

Audience

The course is intended for master students of computer science. Successful prior participation in the introductory course Parallel and High Performance Computing or a similar lecture is required.
