The following examples in figure specify some
exceptions for a policy-based management environment in place.

Example exception metapolicies

- There are situations that are exceptional in comparison to the
normal operation. These special situations may entail exceptions for
the operation of the supporting processes or the enforcement of normal
policies. The first metapolicy does not allow putting any new
policies in place, because this could falsify the auditing results.
- Due to certain circumstances, exceptions for a specific policy or for
policies on a specific target (domain) must be made. This can be
realised as shown in the second and third metapolicy examples. The
advantages of integrating such exceptions in metapolicies are the
explicit statement and central management of the exceptions.
